The Reason the Democratic Party Refuses to Release their Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: The Inside Story.

This action from the DNC to block the public viewing of its internal autopsy report concerning the 2024 election seems remarkable yet to be expected. Resistant to unpleasant candor, the DNC often functions closer to a publicity machine than an electoral entity focused on building local power capable of prevailing at the polls.

A Culture That Avoids Dissent

Hesitant to break with the party establishment's culture of conformity, the DNC has remained under the influence of the previous administration all through 2025. Making public such a report might have shown whether party leaders truly desire to promote honest conversation regarding the missteps that enabled Donald Trump to return to the White House. Instead, the DNC is proceeding as if there are no lessons to be learned from the electoral catastrophe from the last cycle.

"Here’s our North Star: is this good for winning elections? If the answer is no, it becomes a sideline issue from our fundamental goal," an explanation which was presented to justify concealing the report.

Key Issues an Autopsy Could Have Addressed

A genuine analysis of substance would not dodge certain uncomfortable matters. These include:

  • Electoral Alienation: Losing of millions of voters who voted for the party's candidate in 2020 proved pivotal during the tight 2024 election.
  • The Insistence to Seek Re-election: The stubborn decision by a party leader to stay in the race, coupled with a last-minute step-aside, is viewed as denying Democratic voters the chance for a genuine choice.
  • Abandoning Core Democratic Voters: During a time of inflation, the campaign allegedly accommodating powerful financial backers and not managing to address the impact of profit-seeking.
  • The Gaza Effect: The refusal to shift an approach on a ongoing war is cited as alienating many voters, particularly with young people, Arab American communities, Muslim voters.
  • Eroding Youth Allegiance: Extensive evidence shows a huge drop-off of votes for the candidate from young voters.

A Record Shunning Scrutiny

Choosing secrecy fits a pattern of evading difficult realities. This mirrors a dynamic where virtually every elected Democrat in Washington went along with an incumbent's insistence on running for re-election right up until a poor televised debate forced a change.

At the same time, large majorities of Democratic voters had been repeatedly informing researchers that they did not want that candidate to be the nominee.

Financial Issues

A substantive autopsy might also examine questions about where money went, such as what sums flowed to party strategists as well as advertising contractors during an electoral effort that burned through an enormous sum during the general election.

A Broader Issue

Ultimately, the suppression of the official autopsy points to a submission to party leaders that oversaw a losing national race. The signal for ordinary supporters – which includes countless loyal volunteers – is that they cannot be trusted to see what the insiders have learned from a report based on conversations with insiders.

A party unable to critically review where it went wrong is unlikely to break free from the cycle which was so advantageous to their opponents.
